The air pollution problem is China is from two primarysources: automobiles and coal-fired utility plants.
Cleaning up pollution from those two sources will be generate huge profits for the right companies.

Hong Kong cuts rates, spurs 10% jump

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority cuts its benchmark interest rate by a half-point to1.5% yesterday. The Hang Seng jumped by 10% on the news.

China cut interest rates for thethird time in two months to keep its economy from following the U.S. slowdown. China’s key rate was cut from 6.93% to 6.66%.

Hong Kong market jumps 14%

Yesterday’s 889 point Dow Jones rally translated into a 10.3% one day gain. That is an impressive gain but the HongKong Hang Sengindex jumped by 14.4%.
My point is that if you’re going to be invested in stocks, the biggest bang for your buck is going to be inAsia.

Profits fall by 72% at Sony

Consumers aren’t buying electronic doodads at that pace they were. Sony reported a 72% drop in Q3 profits and warned that the futuredoesn’t look so good either.
Sony’s stock, by the way, is selling for less than its book value. That’s a discount worth looking at.

Profits jump at Shenhua Energy

China Shenhua Energy, China’s largest coal producer, reported a 48% jump in Q3 profits on a 33% increase inrevenues.
Approximately 85% of China’s electricity iscoal-fired.
