Japan auto sales drop 28%

Japan exports millions of cars but the Japanese themselves are big car buyers too. At least they were.
Domestic sales of autos in Japan dropped by 28% in January, the biggest one month drop since 1974. It is also the sixth monthly drop in a row.

Chinese ports still bustling

China is still growing — just not as fast as it used to. The Port of Tianjin Port, the largest port in north China, handled 354 million tons of cargo over the last year, a 19.7% increase over the previous year.

The third largest iron company in Australia, Fortescue Metals Group, predicts that worst is behind China and that a recovery is around the corner.

China readies to up stimulus spending.

China has already approved a $580 billion stimulus plan, but it seriously considering spending even more money. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said:
“We may take further new, timely and decisive measures. All these measures have to be taken pre-emptively before an economic retreat.”
“We must take forceful steps. Under special circumstances, necessary and extraordinary measures are required.”

Oil demand drops in China

The demand for oil in China declined by 4% in December. That is the steepest monthly demand decline in the last 10 years and second monthly demand decline in a row.

1 billion internet users!

Research company comScore (: ) reported that the number of people using the internet hit 1 billion for the first time in December.
It also says that 18% of those users are from China. A whopping 41% of that 1 billion users were from Asia.
North America only produced 18% of those users.
