Student suicides on the rise

As Americans, it is hard for us to fathom the pressure on young Asian teenagers to dowell in school.

Here is a disturbing fact: the suiciderates for Hong Kong children aged 14 to 24 is rapidly growing. In 2008, the of rate ofsuicide for the group was 7.9 for every 100,000, a 14% increase over last year.

Without trying to sound too insensitive, it is that type of pressure to succeed that is fueling New OrientalEducation’s growth.
