by Sean Brodrick on February 23, 2009

I’m flying back from Phoenix today.  Here’s what I’m reading as I wait for the rest of Phoenix to wake up (I’m still on East Coast time).
First, more on the euro’s troubles, in Eastern Crisis that Could Wreck the Eurozone
Manufacturing and shipping around the world are collapsing.  And people wonder why we worry about the [...]

Performance of Gold and Silver So Far This Year

by Sean Brodrick on February 22, 2009

in General

I’m starting to put some charts together for my Money and Markets column later this week.  Here’s one I will probably use …
You can see that the U.S. dollar is doing well, gold is doing better, and silver has turned in the best performance for the year to date.  Crude oil and the S&P 500 [...]

A Good and Golden Sunday Morning to ya

by Sean Brodrick on February 22, 2009

in General

I’m still in Phoenix.  I’m going to appear on Al Korelin’s radio show, which he is taping today (I’m not sure when it broadcasts).  Then I have to go talk to a silver company I find very interesting. Then it’s back to my hotel room to write, write, write.

by Sean Brodrick on February 21, 2009

in General

I’m speaking in Phoenix today.  We haven’t looked at this one in a while, but here’s a chart of gold versus the US dollar, the S&P 500, the Dow and the CRB.

you can see that, like the last time we looked at this chart, both gold and the dollar are outperforming the market.  But here’s [...]

I’m Off to Phoenix

by Sean Brodrick on February 20, 2009

in General

I’m traveling today — John and Dinesh are watching the portfolios while I fly to Phoenix.  For the record, I hate flying.  On the other hand, it’s always worthwhile when I get to where I’m going.  I’m off to speak at the 2009 Phoenix Resource Investment Conference.  Maybe I’ll get into an argument over the [...]

Gold Resistance and Support

by Sean Brodrick on February 19, 2009

in General, Interest Rate News

This morning, we saw gold pull back, but buyers are coming in.  We’ll see where we end the day.  A look at a weekly chart of gold may be helpful…
As you can see, gold is up against overhead resistance from last July’s high.  It may pull back here before going on to test all-time highs [...]

Red-Hot Chart Action — Sino Gold

by Sean Brodrick on February 18, 2009

in General

Sino Gold is one of the positions we’ve held in Red-Hot Global Small-Caps for awhile.  I just recommended adding to the position yesterday.  If you bought the U.S. tracking stock, you should have been filled pretty easily yesterday.  If you placed an order to buy Sino Gold in Australia, you should have been filled on [...]

Dollar and Gold are Soaring as World Flees Risk

by Sean Brodrick on February 17, 2009

in Falling Money, General

Stocks are heading lower and gold and silver are heading higher this morning.  Gold is breaking out through overhead resistance (again!) as is the U.S. dollar.  For a change, gold is outperforming silver, so far anyway. We’ll see where we end the day.  Meanwhile, here’s what I am reading …

Doom, Doomer, Doomiest

by Sean Brodrick on February 12, 2009

in Falling Money, General

Which of these three charts do you think spells more trouble?
Already, U.S. foreclosures have topped 250,000 for the 10th straight month. This chart tells me that there is plenty more pain to come.
Nominal retail sales decreased 10.6% year-over-year (retail and food services decreased 9.7%), real retail sales declined by 10.9% (on a year over year [...]

Gold?  ZOOM!  Silver?  ZOOM-ZOOM!  Both are heading higher today, making the timing of my new MoneyandMarkets.com column all the better…
Gold and the Fear Trade
There are some great charts in my MoneyandMarkets.com column today, so I highly recommend it, and not just because I wrote it.  And there are new developments.  In the column, I talk about [...]
